woodland blue phlox

Finally, sunshine! And it's streaming through the kitchen window onto this little vanilla bottle filled with blue phlox. Full disclosure: I picked the phlox blossom from a plant I bought last week at Sandy's Plants. It was almost the only thing blooming on that enormous nursery property, and like all easily seduced customers, I bought it!

This just sort of piled  up--a locust pod on a round dish with a ramekin on top with a piece of rusty metal on that with a little vase on that. The vase is filled with scented geranium leaves (harvested from a plant I'm overwintering inside) and a very old (almost dried) camellia flower.

gourmet gumballs

Another attempt in my never-ending quest to improve the reputation of the gumball. Here they are served up in a little hors d'oeuvre tray.

daffodils with chopsticks

I picked these daffodils before the latest snowstorm. It was so great having them inside on the gray days. Today everything is bright and new daffodils are coming up so fast you can almost watch them grow!

P.S. There's a leaf from a houseplant--begonia--in this, too.

traveling show, best in show

Well, for the second time in two weeks my Windowsill Art talk was cancelled due to weather. And table full of sample of arrangements is still sitting on my dining room table.(second photo). Here's my favorite of them--geranium leaves harvested from a plant I'm overwintering indoors and one tiny green hellebore floret.

more leftover roses

This little snippet of spray roses was leftover from workshop last night. So bright on this gray morning!

Because daughter Kate and I are holding an arranging workshop tomorrow, I have a shed full of flowers. I know everyone will make gorgeous arrangements tomorrow, but I bet none will give me any more pleasure than this 30 second arrangement made with a single blossom. It broke off a longer stem of spray roses, so I brought it inside and dropped into an inkwell already sitting on the windowsill with a couple of leaves in it.

February daffodils

These aren't the first daffodils of the season, but they're the first batch blooming in enough abundance to pick them like this. Love the early evening sky in the background!

pine snippets

Three little pine snippets--jammed together--in a little brown bottle. Found them lying on the Trolley Line Trail this afternoon. I'm guessing squirrels snipped them off from the tips of Virginia pines?
