June 1, 2011---summer roses

It's clear to me why little mounds of roses and other flowers are so popular---they look great in magazine photos. No kidding--big bunches of the same thing photograph better than complex mixtures of colors and textures do. This little collection of red Meidiland roses and a few stems of hootenanny plant (still can't remember it's correct name) and Annabelle hydrangea took about 3 minutes to pull together and it's more "eye-worthy" as a photograph than most of the other arrangements I've photographed. Must say it also looks mighty cheery from across the room.

The stick in this photo is something that almost always sits in the windowsill. It's a mountain laurel branch that caught my eye a decade ago and has been decorating different parts of my house ever since.
