March 3, 2012 -- bark and roots

Day before yesterday, I found these two interesting things in the garden: a piece of bark debris (leftover from a tree that went down in hurricane Irene) and a knotted trumpet vine root. Decided to display both in the windowsill. I used a wooden skewer to hold the trumpet vine root on top of a little vase and it was totally coincidental that the skewer had a bird on the end--making the knotted root look like a nest!
